I was so p****d last night. I signed up for the game about 8:50. Decided I really wanted to play and was feeling good. As soon as the game started my computer started doing strange things. I apologize to those at my table. Anyway, almost an hour later I'm back to the game. Computer is still giving me trouble until I was down to about 500 chips. Went all in with a not so good hand and got beat. grrrrrrrr So if this darn computer will work I will see you at Reefer tonight.

Sorry to hear of your computer woes. I know what you went through. Almost every night at 9PM ET, when our games start, something starts running in the background on my computer. Sometimes it only does it for a couple minutes and other times it is alot longer - as much as an hour. All I do is close ALL widows and apps that are open and restart the damn thing. It didn't happen last night until I was done playing and was just railing our game. I ended up restarting 4 times before it got the message that I was extremely upset. Think it's time for a new computer with at least a dual-core if not a quad core.

Sorry to hear that jeffsbabe. I know that can be very upsetting when you are really wanting to play a game. Hopefully tonight is better for you. Best of luck

Man that stinks I know how it feels to be in a game and the darn computer or in my case the internet goes out. I swear at least once a month ill have the internet go out because of a storm or just for no reason at all its really annoying especially when your playing heads up just wasting your money away. If my internet didn't go out I probably would have been a millionaire by now haha

Here is a step by step method for cleaning up your computer and keeping it running smoothly:

1. Remove any antivirus programs esp. ones like AVG (although good it is a memory hog). Remove any programs never use.

2. Download and install the free version of Malware bytes and do a deep scan of your computer - about an hour.

3. Using the 'run" command box found in the start menu enter msconfig hit enter

The system configuration box will open. click on Startup. Scrool down it there is a checked box for Malware bytes clock on the check mark, hit apply - OK then exit.

Do the same thing with the Services section - this pervents the program from running on start up and when you don't need it.

4. Download and install the free version of Superantispyware and repeat the steps for Malware bytes.

5.. Go to the IObits site and download Advanced System Care (also free), This program will create a restore point he first time you use it. Run Maintain windows and Diagnose system,

6. insure all Windows updates are up to date and you have the latest version of Internet Explorer. Then download and install Windows Security Essentials.

7. If you have been using Norton or a similar commercial and still want to use it -skip point 6. But I see no point in paying money when programs as good as or better are out there for free.

8. I recently put two computers that were talking over thirty minutes to populate the add/remove software screen in control panel and reduced the time to 27 seconds.

9. Please note the steps outlined above will clean most of the probelms on your computer but not all.

10. Other useful programs: Emisoft's anitmalware. I install this, use it then delete it. PCtools registry fix. It will correct some of the problems IObits doesn't unless you buy the full version.

Thanks Jsaw. I ended up formatting my hardrive and starting over. Computer runs good now, but I will save your article and do what it says to keep my computer running smoothly. Thanks for the tips!

Formatting simply restores your computer to its factory settings (restore point can be used for the same basic purpose). However, you will still need to protect and service your computer to keep it running a maximum efficiency. .First step is ti ensure you have all the Microsoft critical updates so people can't walk through your computer. Then a good combination of programs to detect viruses, spyware and malware, plus something to help keep your computer running at at maximum efficiency. Either install the stuff I recommenced or find something else. for example Comodo (an excellent program but the firewall can be a pain in the ass - it prompts you to approve every executable and a dll file that launches for the first time).

I used to use COMODO and it's definitely good except for having to approve the executables all the time. I switched to ZoneAlarm for a firewall and it's great. Only have to approve new executables once (unless the program has an update and then it has to be approved). Alot easier to use.
